“The Mercer study is an important first step in the process of honoring our commitment to bring salaries to a competitive level. Our goal is to establish a salary structure that enables NMSU to recruit and retain the highest caliber faculty and staff. The implementation of this first phase is our way of recognizing our loyal employees and saying ‘thanks for a job well done.'"

About the NMSU Salary Study

New Mexico State University engaged the Mercer Corporation in July 2008 to perform a review of all regular faculty and staff position salaries against identified market salaries, with the intention of funding a salary equity adjustment effective January 2009 for those positions furthest from market targets. We budgeted a specific pool of funds for this purpose as one of the university’s highest priorities. Because this pool of funds is limited, we cannot correct the full difference between current and market salary levels for all employees in a single year. It is our commitment to make an initial adjustment in the current fiscal year, and to diligently seek additional funds to continue correcting all employee salaries to meet market standards over a multi-year timeframe.
